Which is all to say that when beauty leaps out at you from forgotten corner it’s all the more gratifying.
I spent a few hours in Yeniköy, Istanbul the other day. The sky was cloudless, the breeze was slight, the spring sun was gentle and the car park attendant was full of smiles. I mentioned to him that working on the shores of the Bosphorus next to one of the most beautiful stretches of water in the world can’t be a bad thing and he smiled. It was probably a different story a few weeks ago in Istanbul’s notoriously cold damp March weather but he looked at one with the world.
